| Description The Royal Scottish National Orchestra is one of Europe's leading symphony orchestras. Formed in 1891 as the Scottish Orchestra, the company became the Scottish National Orchestra in 1950, and was awarded Royal Patronage in 1991. A host of renowned conductors have contributed to the success of the Orchestra, including Walter Susskind, Sir Alexander Gibson , Bryden Thomson, Neeme Jaervi , now Conductor Laureate and Walter Weller , who is now Conductor Emeritus. Most recently, the Orchestra became internationally recognized for the quality of its performances under the baton of then Principal Conductor, Alexander Lazarev , notably for the complete cycles of Shostakovich and Prokofiev symphonies. Alexander Lazarev was recently appointed Conductor Emeritus. |
