| Description Beijing International Chamber Orchestra Chief conductor: Maria Nauen The Beijing International Chamber Orchestra (BICO) founded as an intercultural project in 2007 and holds a unique position as one of the most active chamber orchestras in the Asian region. Founder and Chief conductor of BICO is professional Russian violinist and viola player Maria Nauen (www.maria-nauen.com ). Comprising an international group of professional and amateur musicians living in Asia, the BICO gives an annual subscription series of concerts with local and internationally renowned artists in a wide range of venues from the concert hall to churches. The orchestra’s programming embraces a diverse repertoire from Baroque to contemporary Chinese compositions and newly-commissioned works. The Beijing International Chamber Orchestra (BICO) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to unite foreign and local amateur and professional musicians to bring music to audiences in Asia. Currently at approximately 35 members, the orchestra is comprised of a diverse array of nationalities, including China, Russia, Georgia, Germany, Switzerland, France, Canada, Belgium, Korea, Hungary,England,Australia,Poland, Mexico,Japan, Taiwan, Netherlands and the United States. Since November 2010 BICO is a certified member of the World Federation of Amateur Orchestras (NPO WFAO) Formed in September 2007, BICO gives four pairs of formal concerts per year, performing a wide range of repertoire and instrumentation. . The remainder is dedicated to the BICO Chamber Music Series, which features smaller ensembles comprised of BICO members. Also a special part of the orchestra´s mission is to bring classical music to young audience. |
